Nour El Masry's Journey Into Psychotherapy

My journey into psychotherapy began when I personally experienced the comfort and insight that can emerge from sharing one's story with another. Opening up about my own sorrows, anxieties, and joys allowed me to gain new perspectives and build more meaningful relationships.

This transformative experience inspired me to pursue a career in psychotherapy, helping others navigate their own challenges and growth. I believe in the profound power of therapy to create understanding, healing, and positive change.

The Need for Culturally-Sensitive Mental Health Support

As a UKCP-accredited psychotherapist with an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy, I have witnessed firsthand the unique challenges that Arabic-speaking individuals face when seeking mental health support in the UK.

Many Arabic speakers struggle to find therapists who truly understand their cultural context. Language barriers can prevent people from fully expressing their emotions, while cultural nuances around family dynamics, identity, and mental health stigma often remain unexplained or misunderstood in traditional therapy settings.

The Gap: For many people, being able to express yourself in your native language or work with someone who understands your cultural background can make therapy feel more comfortable and effective. Yet finding these options in the UK has been challenging. Arabic Therapists UK brings together qualified therapists to give you more choice.

Why Nour El Masry Created Arabic Therapists UK

I am originally from Egypt and have lived in the UK since 2010. Experiencing life in two cultures has deepened my understanding of the unique challenges faced by the Arab community in seeking mental health support.

I noticed how difficult it can be to find therapists who both speak Arabic and understand Arab cultural contexts. Many Arabic speakers struggle to express their emotions in English or feel they must constantly explain their cultural background, family dynamics, and lived experiences to therapists who don't share their cultural understanding.

This gap inspired me to create Arabic Therapists UK—a directory that makes it easier for Arabic-speaking individuals to find qualified, culturally-sensitive mental health professionals. Whether someone prefers therapy entirely in Arabic or wants a therapist with deep cultural understanding, this platform connects them with the right support.

Nour El Masry's Vision for the Arab Community

My vision extends beyond individual therapy sessions. I aim to contribute to a broader cultural shift around mental health in the Arab community—one where seeking support is seen as a sign of strength, not weakness.

Through Arabic Therapists UK, I hope to:

  • Reduce stigma around mental health conversations within Arab families and communities
  • Make quality mental health support accessible to Arabic speakers across the UK and beyond
  • Build a network of culturally-informed professionals committed to serving the Arab community
  • Empower individuals to seek help in their own language, without barriers or shame
  • Create resources and information that educate the community about mental health and wellbeing

I believe that when individuals find the right support, they gain not just understanding, but also confidence, resilience, and a renewed sense of possibility. By making this support more accessible, we can strengthen entire communities and future generations.
